Prince – An inspiration

I read a tweet yesterday that said Prince inspired a generation to be fearless. That is absolutely true.  And that first generation was mine.

I first saw Prince in Purple Rain and then later at a concert and both blew me away. You almost didn’t know what to think, at first. How did this short man, in heels, makeup, and the coolest clothes I’d ever seen, simply look into the camera and make you want him. That’s what I saw anyway, and then when the music played, you knew this was something special.  Someone special.   A once in a lifetime special.

I also read someone say that they had never felt such loss for someone they didn’t know and I can agree with this too. I guess there are so many of us who related to this quiet, shy man, who spoke through his instruments and said so much in the music he made and performances he gave.

I find myself so sad that the dream I had years ago of maybe one day meeting him will now have to stay a dream. He seemed like the kind of person you’d want to know. Not a self-absorbed person who had let fame change him, but someone you could just hang out with and jam. And watching the reaction from people who did know him makes me realize that I was right.

All I can say is what amazing courage it took to do all that he did, but I heard someone say he was laser focused, had a tireless work ethic, and knew what he wanted when he started out.  And look at what that accomplished. He earned several Grammy’s, an Oscar, and incredible fame so early in his career. And being the true musician that he was, you can tell accolades were not what he needed. He needed to create like we need air to breath. It seems that’s what kept the light inside him so bright.

I think people whose light shine as brightly as Prince’s, don’t seem to stay with us.  And, sadly, yesterday this proved true.

So thank you Prince for inspiring me as a young girl, for inspiring me again as an adult and for always playing in the background during every special event in my life. Until I make it to that concert in heaven…XOXOXO

Jewelry Trends for Spring 2016

As we look forward to warmer weather, there are lots of new jewelry trends for Spring 2016 and here are a few we thought you might like.

Pastel Colors – As you know, Rose Quartz (a blush pink color) and Serenity (a light blue) are two colors that are leading the pastel color scheme this spring. Some other popular colors, according to Instyle Magazine, also include Lilac Grey, Buttercup, Fiesta, Green Flash, and Iced Coffee, among others. And our Cosette Necklace comes in three of these popular colors.

Statement Necklaces – This trend continues into Spring 2016. And with the popularity of denim shirts right now, a statement necklace is the perfect piece to wear around the collar. Try it! Our Fleur Collar is the perfect piece for this task.

Chokers – This hot trend is #1 on Fashionisers list of accessory trends for Spring/Summer 2016. And they are coming out in several different material variations, such as the traditional velvet chokers with embellishments or with metal, pearls, chains, and leather. Our Lauren Link Chain Choker is a perfect embodiment of the new materials….it has two variations of chain in the same necklace and is interlaced with leather and topped off with a suede tassel. It’s a stylish piece that gets lots of compliments.

Ring Stacking or One Large Statement Ring – While stacking rings is still popular, if you don’t want to pile on several rings, you might consider one large statement ring.  It sometimes looks a bit more elegant and is easier to wear than several smaller rings.  Our Ogden Crystal Ring is a perfect for making a statement and is a stretch ring so it’s practically guaranteed to fit.  Its an easy on and off ring and is just so gorgeous, you can’t pass it up.

These are budget-friendly and maybe close enough to you to just drive instead of fly. Share your favorite USA vacation spots with us on Twitter @AssuredAllure using hashtag #summertravel. So pack up the fam and hit the road!

  1. Yellowstone National Park (California) – You can camp, you can hike, you can explore and relax for very little of the green stuff in your wallet. Yellowstone is home to breathtaking natural attractions for visitors of all ages. With miles of hiking and skiing paths, erupting hot springs and belching mud pools, adventure-seekers agree that the entrance fee is a small price to pay for a visit to America’s oldest national park.
  2. Yosemite National Park (California) – With plenty of natural attractions and low-price camping areas, Yosemite offers refuge for those looking to escape their hectic urban lives. Like Yellowstone, Yosemite offers access to extensive hiking trails for a small entrance fee, and travelers can avoid high hotel rates by simply packing a tent.
  3. Savannah (Georgia) – Low prices are just one of the many perks of planning a trip to this southern city, not to mention picturesque architecture and restaurants dishing out hearty portions of Southern fare. With budget-friendly room rates, there’s no excuse not to stay a few extra nights.
  4. Washington D.C. – Not only is this a historic destination where your kids will learn a ton about our American history but its budget friendly too. Although hotel prices are not always budget-friendly, those who are patient can generally find a room to suit both taste and budget. And with a wide variety of things to do, visitors can spend a couple of guilt-free days perusing the dozens of free Smithsonian museums along the National Mall.
  5. Adirondacks (New York) – You don’t have to worry about overstepping your price limit on a visit to the Adirondacks. In fact, if you’re devoted to staying in the great outdoors, the cost will come in well under budget. Campgrounds are extremely affordable and the hiking trails are completely free to explore.
  6. Myrtle Beach (South Carolina) – Home to numerous golf courses and family-friendly attractions, Myrtle Beach’s affordable hotels and restaurants make a trip here even more enjoyable. Take advantage of the stay-and-golf deals offered by many Myrtle Beach hotels, or spend time on the city’s public beaches.
  7. Key West (Florida) – The southernmost island in the Florida Keys offers relaxation, quirky attractions and a lively restaurant and bar scene — all within a 7-mile stretch, making a car unnecessary. Book early if you want to visit in the popular winter and spring seasons.
  8. Austin (Texas) – Sitting at the heart of the Lone Star State, Austin’s outdoor attractions and notorious nightlife draw crowds from all over the country. A wide variety of lodging and dining options make the quirky “Live Music Capital of the World” a great year-round vacation spot.
  9. Chicago (Illinois) – The Windy City is home to plenty of free attractions that cater to the bargain hunter, including Millennium Park and Navy Pier. And don’t worry about spending a fortune on food: A slice of Chicago’s famous pan pie won’t break the bank.
  10. Charlottesville (Virginia) – The East Coast doesn’t have a Napa Valley equivalent, but Charlottesville is hoping to come close. You’ll find plenty of wineries and historical attractions, like Thomas Jefferson’s stunning Monticello. The best part: The hotels here cost a fraction of Napa’s exorbitant accommodation prices.
