Jewelry Trends for Spring 2016

As we look forward to warmer weather, there are lots of new jewelry trends for Spring 2016 and here are a few we thought you might like.

Pastel Colors – As you know, Rose Quartz (a blush pink color) and Serenity (a light blue) are two colors that are leading the pastel color scheme this spring. Some other popular colors, according to Instyle Magazine, also include Lilac Grey, Buttercup, Fiesta, Green Flash, and Iced Coffee, among others. And our Cosette Necklace comes in three of these popular colors.

Statement Necklaces – This trend continues into Spring 2016. And with the popularity of denim shirts right now, a statement necklace is the perfect piece to wear around the collar. Try it! Our Fleur Collar is the perfect piece for this task.

Chokers – This hot trend is #1 on Fashionisers list of accessory trends for Spring/Summer 2016. And they are coming out in several different material variations, such as the traditional velvet chokers with embellishments or with metal, pearls, chains, and leather. Our Lauren Link Chain Choker is a perfect embodiment of the new materials….it has two variations of chain in the same necklace and is interlaced with leather and topped off with a suede tassel. It’s a stylish piece that gets lots of compliments.

Nautical – As Fashionista points out in its article, its all about nautical details, from the stripes to the rope embellishments. You will want to check out our Multi Chain Nautical Charm Necklace to help you get this fun spring look!

Ring Stacking or One Large Statement Ring – While stacking rings is still popular, if you don’t want to pile on several rings, you might consider one large statement ring.  It sometimes looks a bit more elegant and is easier to wear than several smaller rings.  Our Ogden Crystal Ring is a perfect for making a statement and is a stretch ring so it’s practically guaranteed to fit.  Its an easy on and off ring and is just so gorgeous, you can’t pass it up.

Online Fashion Consignment – Clothes for cash!

Remember the days of the garage sale?  Maybe it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem like you see garage sales like you used to. When I was young, it seemed someone in the neighborhood was having one every weekend. And my mother dragged me to every one of those! Which means that I have an aversion to them, although I do think they are very good way to re-purpose household items that would otherwise get thrown away. Now, there’s a better and more convenient way.

If you’ve collected an overabundance of nice clothes, purses, and shoes, there are some great online fashion consignment sites you might want to check out. Going this route will not only help you clean out your closet but you can also earn some money too!  Here are some of the sites that you might like.

ThredUp – They send you a bag, for free, you fill it up, send it back and ThredUp sells the items and takes a commission. Super convenient. They are looking for items that are like new or without a lot of wear and tear, or may even still have tags. You can leave your earnings with them and use it to shop with on their site or you can cash out with PayPal.  Every year ThredUp donates 10% of their Clean Out proceeds to Teach for America and you can also donate your earnings to their non-profit partners if you like.  And they also accept children’s clothes.

Poshmark – You take a picture of what you want to sell with your phone and post it using their free app.  And then hope it sells!  Poshmark promotes a community of buying and selling with other Poshmark “closets” and you actually follow other peoples postings based on your likes.  So you are selling to your contemporaries. This service is more of an eBay process approach, which means you do more of the work to sell the product, and they tend to focus on name-label products, such as Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch and Michael Kors.

Tradesy – You sell anything in your closet that’s in great condition. Again, you take the picture of the item, but they will help with enhancement of that image. If you aren’t sure of a price, they will suggest a price. And if an item sells, Tradesy sends you a free pre-addressed box, a prepaid shipping label, packing material, and you ship your product out. They earn a commission on your sale price and if a customer wants to return the product they will process the return for you. This is more of a hybrid of the first two online services listed here.

Threadflip – They either send you a shipping kit or you can print a prepaid shipping label at home to send your products to them.   Your products are then inspected and if they don’t make the cut are either returned to you or donated to Goodwill.   For items they accept to sell, they will photograph, price, sell and ship. You can leave your earnings with Threadflip and use it to shop with on their site or you can cash out with PayPal. This and ThredUp are very similar models.

I’ve given you tidbits on sites that you can buy and sell primarily clothing and purses, but there are sites that you can use to sell other products too, such as swap.com or eBay Valet.

While most of us know about eBay, eBay Valet lets you simply package up an item you want to sell, ship it to eBay using a free prepaid label and then eBay Valet will handle the rest. They will photograph your item, create a professional looking post and deal with customer inquiries. Once your item sells, they’ll ship the product to the buyer and send you up to 80 percent of the sale price via PayPal. There are some limitations on what you can and can’t sell.   This is a site you cannot use to sell clothing or anything worth less than $40, but if you have electronics, sporting goods, or instruments, then this is the site for you.

B989 GOLD

I love the fact that the online world has given us these alternatives. No more garage sales! Not to offend the garage sale lovers out there. After all, my mom still loves them. And, yes, sometimes I still go with her.  But if I do go, I’m wearing our Crystal Tube Bracelet.  A piece that can be worn anywhere!

Happy Selling!

Easy Ways to Sweat Proof Your Makeup This Summer

sweaty makeupRunny, shiny makeup is a yucky way to spend your summer days so here are some easy tips to sweat proof your makeup this summer so you can get out and enjoy the heat and still look cool.

Stick to Long-Wearing Formulas

Cheaper formulas really don’t hold up as well during the summer. The trick to using cheaper formulas during the hotter months is getting them to go on smoothly, since they tend to be thicker and don’t melt as easily into the skin. Celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman’s solution? “Apply while the skin is still dewy with moisturizer. It’ll spread beautifully, then set to a long-wear finish.”

Apply Eye Shadow With a Damp Brush

Wet your brush with a bit of water before dipping it into your eye shadow, Freedman suggests. “It dries to a nice glazed finish that lasts.”

Be Strategic Around Your Eyes

“I generally use foundation or tinted moisturizer around eyes to downplay and brighten,” explains Freedman. “Then I use concealer only on the inner, deep-set part of the eye. That way, you use less of the fuller-formula concealer.”

Spot-Treat Shine

Get rid of oiliness when you notice it—before it makes your makeup run. Freedman’s rule of thumb: “If you are wearing foundation, I like to touch up with a low-pigment powder like MAC Blot Powder and a tight brush. If you aren’t wearing foundation, go for blotting papers and films instead.”

Lock In Moisture the Right Way

“Moisturizing isn’t about adding oil to the skin,” says Aaron Tabor, M.D., author of Nutritional Cosmetics: Beauty From Within and physician researcher for Healthy Directions. “It’s about keeping moisture in. So use an oil-free or light moisturizer over damp skin and work from the inside out by drinking extra water to stay hydrated.”

Put On Your Antiperspirant at Night

“This gives the ingredients time to start working even before your day begins,” says Dr. Tabor.

Deal With a Sweaty Head ASAP

When you feel your hair begin to get damp, Freedman suggests reaching for dry shampoo, or try blotting with über-absorbing paper towels. “I know an actress who cuts one up into squares and keeps it in the gym bag so she can blot her hairline.”

Head Off Scalp Oiliness

If you’re an active person and you’re having problems controlling the oiliness of your scalp, it’s time to make a switch to shampoo for oily hair, says Dr. Tabor—even if you don’t normally classify your hair as oily.

Switch Your Mascara Formula

Waterproof mascara will stay put longer. Sensitive eyes? Freedman suggests looking for a weatherproof—not waterproof—formula. It’s a bit easier to remove.

Get Thee a Primer

For days when you really want to make sure your makeup stays put, it’s time to turn to primer. You can wear it under your foundation or use Freedman’s genius trick: Mix a touch with full-formula foundation to give a tinted moisturizer feel with the added staying power of the primer.

Top 10 Best Affordable US Vacation Destinations

usvacationIf travel is on your to-do list this summer than you have to hit these top 10 spots across our great nation to visit. These are budget-friendly and maybe close enough to you to just drive instead of fly. Share your favorite USA vacation spots with us on Twitter @AssuredAllure using hashtag #summertravel. So pack up the fam and hit the road!

  1. Yellowstone National Park (California) – You can camp, you can hike, you can explore and relax for very little of the green stuff in your wallet. Yellowstone is home to breathtaking natural attractions for visitors of all ages. With miles of hiking and skiing paths, erupting hot springs and belching mud pools, adventure-seekers agree that the entrance fee is a small price to pay for a visit to America’s oldest national park.
  2. Yosemite National Park (California) – With plenty of natural attractions and low-price camping areas, Yosemite offers refuge for those looking to escape their hectic urban lives. Like Yellowstone, Yosemite offers access to extensive hiking trails for a small entrance fee, and travelers can avoid high hotel rates by simply packing a tent.
  3. Savannah (Georgia) – Low prices are just one of the many perks of planning a trip to this southern city, not to mention picturesque architecture and restaurants dishing out hearty portions of Southern fare. With budget-friendly room rates, there’s no excuse not to stay a few extra nights.
  4. Washington D.C. – Not only is this a historic destination where your kids will learn a ton about our American history but its budget friendly too. Although hotel prices are not always budget-friendly, those who are patient can generally find a room to suit both taste and budget. And with a wide variety of things to do, visitors can spend a couple of guilt-free days perusing the dozens of free Smithsonian museums along the National Mall.
  5. Adirondacks (New York) – You don’t have to worry about overstepping your price limit on a visit to the Adirondacks. In fact, if you’re devoted to staying in the great outdoors, the cost will come in well under budget. Campgrounds are extremely affordable and the hiking trails are completely free to explore.
  6. Myrtle Beach (South Carolina) – Home to numerous golf courses and family-friendly attractions, Myrtle Beach’s affordable hotels and restaurants make a trip here even more enjoyable. Take advantage of the stay-and-golf deals offered by many Myrtle Beach hotels, or spend time on the city’s public beaches.
  7. Key West (Florida) – The southernmost island in the Florida Keys offers relaxation, quirky attractions and a lively restaurant and bar scene — all within a 7-mile stretch, making a car unnecessary. Book early if you want to visit in the popular winter and spring seasons.
  8. Austin (Texas) – Sitting at the heart of the Lone Star State, Austin’s outdoor attractions and notorious nightlife draw crowds from all over the country. A wide variety of lodging and dining options make the quirky “Live Music Capital of the World” a great year-round vacation spot.
  9. Chicago (Illinois) – The Windy City is home to plenty of free attractions that cater to the bargain hunter, including Millennium Park and Navy Pier. And don’t worry about spending a fortune on food: A slice of Chicago’s famous pan pie won’t break the bank.
  10. Charlottesville (Virginia) – The East Coast doesn’t have a Napa Valley equivalent, but Charlottesville is hoping to come close. You’ll find plenty of wineries and historical attractions, like Thomas Jefferson’s stunning Monticello. The best part: The hotels here cost a fraction of Napa’s exorbitant accommodation prices.

5 Slim Down Styles that You Can Start Right Now

how to dress skinny

While most of us are wholeheartedly trying to stick to our New Year’s resolutions waiting for those holiday pounds to drop off can take a while. But while you wait there are some easy to implement options to help you feel lighter already. Here are our top 5 tips to dress thin and feel great.

  1. Choose small, tight prints instead of bigger prints because they make you look bigger. It’s really that simple. Small patterns distract the eye from trouble spots and create an overall proportioning effect for your figure. Plus, this trend happens to be very in, so why not give it a try?
  2. Go head-to-toe monochromatic. Now we don’t mean stop wearing any additional color – adding color through your accessories like a great necklace or bright colored earrings is a great way to go. Going monochromatic creates a longer, leaner figure because it doesn’t chop up your body and force people to view it section by section (hide the sections you don’t like this way!). Wearing an all-black ensemble is your best bet for looking lean, but any solid you feel fabulous in will work.
  3. Try a side-paneled dress to accentuate your curves and small waste line. Side paneling on clothing tricks the eye into believing that the body is slimmer than it actually is. Dark side paneling virtually “cuts away” the sides of your silhouette, making you appear narrower.
  4. Get your clothes properly tailored. One style tip you must abide by is making sure your clothes fit perfectly – no matter what size you are. Keep your look streamlined and sleek by paying a visit to your tailor. Get your pants hemmed, dresses fitted and tops modified as needed. If your clothes fit properly, you will look and feel your best.
  5. Slim your arms with the right sleeves. If you’re self-conscious about your arms don’t choose a top with sleeves that hit where they are widest. (Short sleeves and cap sleeves are often the worst offenders for most women.) Billowy sleeves that cover the upper arm or longer sleeves that hit mid-forearm are the most flattering and believe it or not are acceptable (depending on the fabric) in any season.

Take these style tips to the streets and share how you’re putting them to good use with us on Twitter @assuredallure with hashtag #dresstoimpress.
